Rahul Gandhi Calls India’s Education System an ‘Extortion Mechanism’, Demands Educational Reforms

Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Monday alleged that India’s education system has turned into a “dishonest extortion mechanism” and called for a comprehensive revolution in the education sector.

Ahead of his second interaction with students under the ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ initiative, Gandhi said the country’s education system has become corrupt, unjust, biased, and dishonest, failing to serve the interests of students.

In a post on X, Gandhi claimed that a system meant to prepare children for the future is instead pushing students and their families into debt, stress, and despair.

He alleged that corruption has fueled the paper leak mafia, depriving millions of deserving students of opportunities despite years of hard work. According to Gandhi, while those responsible for irregularities continue to receive contracts and promotions, students are left to bear the consequences with shattered aspirations.

The Congress leader also criticized the Union government and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, alleging that they have remained silent on the issue instead of ensuring accountability. He further accused sections of the media of ignoring concerns raised by students.

Calling for major reforms, Gandhi said the time has come for an education revolution that prioritizes fairness, transparency, and opportunities for young people.

He also invited students to participate in the next ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ programme scheduled to be held in Dehradun on July 17.

Rahul Gandhi had launched the initiative with a students’ interaction programme in Kota, Rajasthan, on June 17, where he described India’s education system as a “rejection system” rather than a selection process. He had also alleged that the existing system imposes excessive financial burden, stress, and uncertainty on students and middle-class families while failing to nurture their aspirations.
