In a decisive operation on Monday, police seized over one kilogram of charas and arrested two suspected drug peddlers in Shopian and Budgam districts of Jammu and Kashmir. This action underscores the ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region.
Acting on specific intelligence, the Police Station Zainapora initiated a significant operation that led to the recovery of a substantial quantity of illegal substance. The police registered FIR No. 77/2025 under the NDPS Act and secured a search warrant from the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Shopian.
A team led by the Station House Officer (SHO) of Zainapora, accompanied by the Executive Magistrate 1st Class, conducted a thorough search at the residence of Gh. Mohammad Sheikh, a resident of Humhuna Nagbal.
“During the search, we seized a kilogram of charas and a grinder machine believed to be used for processing narcotics. While Sheikh is currently absconding, we are actively pursuing leads to apprehend him,” stated a police spokesperson.
In a parallel operation, the Police Post Wachi intercepted a suspect at a checkpoint in Naghard Wachi. The individual, identified as Imtiyaz Ahmad Sheikh from Pombia Kulgam, was caught with 101 grams of charas.
A fresh case, FIR No. 78/2025 under the NDPS Act, was subsequently registered at the Police Station Zainapora, as authorities continued their rigorous crackdown on drug-related crimes.
In Budgam district, police conducted a routine naka checking at Checkpora Kralpora, leading to the arrest of another suspected drug dealer. The suspect, Moomin Qadir Dhobi, from Dharambugh Kralpora, was found in possession of 112 grams of charas.
This operation also resulted in the registration of FIR No. 173/2025 under the NDPS Act at the Police Station Chadoora. Authorities confirmed that investigations are actively ongoing in this case as well.
The dual operations in Shopian and Budgam not only highlight police vigilance but also reflect increased efforts to tackle the drug menace in Kashmir. As narcotics continue to pose significant challenges to public safety and health, law enforcement agencies remain committed to eradicating this social ill.
