Man Arrested in Mathura for Threatening CM Yogi on Social Media

Police have arrested a man identified as Sunit alias “Katua,” a resident of Nagla Hardayal in the Mant area of Mathura, for allegedly threatening the life of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. This incident occurred on a weekend, when Sunit posted a video on social media brandishing a pistol and articulating his threat to shoot the Chief Minister by September 25, immediately before taking his own life.

In the disturbing video, Sunit held a pistol and displayed a magazine containing nine bullets, claiming he would “fire all nine.” He expressed frustration over not receiving a response after filing a complaint with the CM’s office, which he claimed prompted his drastic action.

On Friday evening, when police arrived to apprehend him, Sunit fortified himself inside his home and opened fire from the third floor. He threatened to shoot himself too, leading to a tense standoff that lasted nearly an hour. Ultimately, police successfully subdued him and confiscated a loaded pistol along with live cartridges.

Residents of Nagla Hardayal indicated that Sunit had faced significant mental stress, often discussing his personal woes loudly and demonstrating increasingly erratic behavior in the months leading up to this incident. Locals voiced concerns about his stability, noting that he seemed to be in a troubled state of mind.

The video, which quickly garnered widespread attention on social media platforms, prompted immediate action from law enforcement agencies. Investigators are currently working to ascertain how Sunit obtained the firearm and to thoroughly understand the motive behind his threats against CM Yogi Adityanath.

A case has been registered against him under several serious charges, including criminal intimidation, inciting violence, and illegal possession of firearms. Authorities emphasize the importance of addressing threats to public officials and the safety of society.

As investigations continue, community members hope for a deeper look into mental health resources in the area, recognizing that many individuals may be struggling silently.
