Women’s Grievances Addressed at Mahila Jan Sunwai in Jammu

Jammu, 26th September 2025 — Smt. Vijaya Rahatkar, the Hon’ble Chairperson of the National Commission for Women (NCW), spearheaded a crucial event named Mahila Jan Sunwai (Rashtriya Mahila Ayog-Apke Dwar) in Jammu today. The initiative aimed to address women’s grievances directly, offering immediate resolutions. This engaging program drew active participation from various women and stakeholders.

The NCW effectively resolved multiple complaints on-site, demonstrating its commitment to providing prompt relief and guidance to those affected. This outreach exemplifies the Commission’s dedication to ensuring justice and support for women through accessible and responsive mechanisms.

Smt. Rahatkar commended the Jammu & Kashmir Police for their cooperation and swift action in facilitating the event. The DIG Jammu expressed gratitude for selecting Jammu as the venue for such an important initiative, reinforcing institutional responsiveness and trust between citizens and law enforcement regarding women’s safety and dignity.

Following the Mahila Jan Sunwai, a review meeting took place with senior police and district administrative officers. During this session, the Commission presented guidelines and directives to bolster existing safety plans. The emphasis lay heavily on organizing more seminars and programs focusing on women’s safety and security.

A PowerPoint presentation delivered by the DIG Jammu, along with the District Administration, highlighted safety measures and facilities available for women. The presentation included critical data regarding the prevention and detection of crimes against females, aiming to further empower and inform the attendees.

The proceedings of the Mahila Jan Sunwai saw the participation of Sh. Shiv Kumar, IPS, Deputy Inspector General, JSK Range; Sh. Rakesh Minhas, IAS, DC Jammu; Sh. Joginder Singh, SSP Jammu; Sh. Virender Manhas, SSP Samba; Sh. Sandip Bhat, Addl. SP Udhampur; Sh. Rahul Charak, Addl. SP Kathua; Zonal SSPs from Jammu, Samba, Kathua, and Udhampur; as well as several Investigating Officers handling the listed complaints.

This proactive initiative not only facilitates problem-solving for myriad grievances faced by women but also cements the connection between law enforcement and the communities they serve, ensuring that essential safety measures remain at the forefront of administrative priorities. With events like these, the NCW strives to create an environment where women feel supported, safe, and empowered to voice their concerns.
