Kupwara, September 22: Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Shrikant Suse (IAS), flagged off a group of beneficiaries today from the DC Office Complex for an exposure-cum-training visit to the Government Sheep Breeding Farm, Poshnar, Rajwar Kupwara. This initiative, organized by the Department of Sheep Husbandry under the SEWA PARV initiative, aims to uplift local sheep breeders and improve their sheep husbandry practices.
During the event, DC Suse emphasized the importance of livestock for livelihood generation. He appreciated the department’s sustained efforts at empowering local breeders and assured them of full support as they adopt modern methods of sheep rearing. “Livestock holds immense potential for income enhancement, especially in rural areas,” he stated, underscoring the critical role of sheep husbandry in achieving economic sustainability.
District Sheep Husbandry Officer Dr. Ishrat provided key insights into the exposure program, which aims to equip beneficiaries with hands-on training and practical demonstrations regarding scientific sheep rearing. He noted that the training covers various essential aspects, including flock management, breeding practices, and animal health care. Such initiatives, he said, will enable local farmers to adopt improved management practices, ultimately raising productivity and ensuring better animal welfare.
Additionally, technical experts from the department will host interactive sessions at the farm. These sessions will enhance beneficiaries’ understanding of modern techniques that can lead to higher returns and sustainable growth in their sheep husbandry practices. The visit promises to showcase innovative practices that can easily be replicated at the grassroots level, thus producing better outcomes.
This initiative reflects the Department of Sheep Husbandry’s ongoing commitment to uplifting the socio-economic conditions of sheep rearers in Kupwara. It aims to promote self-reliance through livestock-based entrepreneurship, thereby contributing significantly to strengthening the rural economy in the region.
