Jammu to Srinagar Vande Bharat Train Extension Announced

The Indian Railways has officially announced the extension of the Vande Bharat Express, aiming to enhance regional connectivity by linking Jammu with Srinagar. This train service, currently connecting Katra to Srinagar, will soon originate from Jammu itself, according to senior railway officials.

Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Jammu, Vivek Kumar, confirmed these developments, indicating that full preparations are underway for the expansion of this semi-high-speed service. Kumar stated that delays arose due to significant damage inflicted on railway tracks from recent floods and incessant rains.

“We are working on it. The delay occurred due to massive damage to tracks because of floods and heavy rains,” Kumar told reporters. He assured that restoration efforts are ongoing at a rapid pace. The extension will launch once the requisite safety clearances are obtained.

Launched earlier this year, the Katra-to-Srinagar Vande Bharat service has dramatically reduced travel time between the scenic Valley and the base camp of the famous Mata Vaishno Devi shrine. The planned extension to Jammu aims to enhance this connectivity, promising to benefit not only daily commuters but also pilgrims and tourists visiting the region.

Once operational, the Jammu-to-Srinagar Vande Bharat Express is expected to run daily. This service will deliver improved travel comfort and reduced journey times compared to existing rail and road options. This initiative plays a crucial role in promoting tourism in Jammu and Kashmir, a region known for its breathtaking landscapes and cultural heritage.

The introduction of the Vande Bharat Express has already garnered positive feedback for its modern amenities and swift travel. By connecting Jammu to Srinagar, the Indian Railways aims to elevate the travel experience, making it more accessible for all.
