Doda, November 08, 2025: Doda Police swiftly arrested two accused in a motorcycle theft case within 48 hours of its registration. The police recovered the stolen motorcycle, highlighting their commitment to public safety.
The incident unfolded on November 5, 2025, when a complaint was lodged by Omair Ullah Wani, reporting the theft of his motorcycle (registration number JK06A-6107) from the Jathi area. In response, Police Station Assar registered FIR No. 37/2025 under Section 302(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Under the guidance of SSP Doda Shri Sandeep Mehta (JKPS), a specialized team led by PSI Shivam Dev Singh was formed to investigate the case. The team’s prompt action proved vital.
Acting on specific leads, police detained two suspects during the early hours of November 6. After thorough questioning, both admitted to stealing the motorcycle on the night of October 26. The stolen motorcycle was retrieved from their possession.
The arrested suspects are:
- Mohd Tariq @ Baffer, S/o Mohd Aslam, a resident of Bhagtha, Katra, District Reasi — identified as a habitual offender and absconder.
- Munish Kumar, S/o Mansa Ram, residing in Bali Chanalra Bhalesa, District Doda.
Authorities discovered that Mohd Tariq @ Baffer has a long criminal history, evidencing his involvement in multiple thefts and other serious offenses across various jurisdictions. His record includes multiple FIRs for theft, burglary, and drug-related crimes. Notably, he has evaded arrest and is wanted in several districts, including Reasi, Doda, and Kangra.
Tariq’s extensive criminal history includes serious charges under the IPC and NDPS Act. The Hon’ble Court had previously issued a general warrant of arrest against him, showcasing his notoriety in the region.
The rapid action by the Doda Police underscores their dedication to combating crime and ensuring the safety of local residents.
