The Congress party on Thursday sharply criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government, expressing deep concern about the rising unemployment crisis in India. Congress general secretary in-charge of communications Jairam Ramesh highlighted that Modi remains “always in election mode,” preoccupied with creating new speeches instead of confronting urgent societal challenges.
Ramesh noted the profound impact that the last 11 years of Modi’s rule have had across various sections of society. In a post on X, he stated, “Students, youth, farmers, labourers, workers, shopkeepers, employees, businessmen – not a single section is happy with this government.” He lamented the affordability crisis, stating, “Inflation is skyrocketing, the value of the rupee is continuously falling, and the gap between the rich and poor is widening.”
Rising unemployment has taken a toll, making it a matter of grave concern for millions. Citing a recent report by the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE), Ramesh revealed that India’s unemployment rate surged to 7.5% in October 2025, marking the highest level observed in the past six months.
He warned that “millions of people have lost their jobs across sectors, including construction and IT-banking.” According to his statements, over 90 lakh individuals lost jobs in the construction sector alone, while 25 lakh salaried positions have vanished. Such alarming indicators have consistently emerged over past years, yet, according to Ramesh, the government remains unresponsive.
Directly addressing the Prime Minister, Ramesh said, “It seems Modi ji has no concern for the youth of this country. Always in election mode, he is busy crafting new speeches and narratives to distract the public instead of addressing the unemployment crisis.” This remark encapsulated the growing frustration among opposition parties regarding the government’s focus and approach.
The Congress party has continually criticized the government’s management of the economy, highlighting concerns about rising prices, declining private investments, and stagnating wages. In their view, these challenges severely harm ordinary citizens. They advocate for a government focus on real economic reforms and job creation rather than mere propaganda and political rhetoric.
