Good People Avoiding Politics: Ex-President Kovind Urges Youth

Former President Ramnath Kovind delivered a compelling message at the annual Vijayadashmi rally of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in Nagpur, urging young people to embrace political participation. He expressed concern over the growing trend of ‘good people’ shying away from politics, emphasizing its importance for a robust democracy.

Addressing the crowd as the chief guest, Kovind spoke at the Reshimbagh ground on Thursday, advocating for youth engagement in shaping the nation’s political landscape. He remarked, “I appeal to the youth to step forward and participate actively in politics,” underscoring how crucial their involvement is for the future of the country.

Kovind’s reflections drew from his own journey, citing the crucial influence of RSS founder Keshav Baliram Hedgewar and social reformer Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar on his values and perspectives. Highlighting their teachings, he stated, “I was inspired by the values of national unity and social harmony shared by Dr. Ambedkar and Dr. Hedgewar.” His remarks highlighted how these foundational thoughts shaped his understanding of society and its needs.

In his address, Kovind emphasized the ideal of inclusivity within the RSS, stating, “There is no casteism and discrimination in RSS.” He advocated for the organization’s commitment to building a cohesive society, encouraging young leaders to align with these principles.

The former president’s call to action coincided with a significant milestone, as the Vijayadashmi rally also celebrated the centenary of the RSS, a pivotal organization in Indian socio-political life since its inception on Dussehra in 1925. Kovind noted, “The RSS founder’s ‘vichar’ helped me clearly understand society and the nation,” affirming the lasting importance of these ideas in contemporary India.

Kovind concluded his speech by sharing his current literary endeavor, announcing he is writing a book titled ‘Triumph of the Indian Republic’. This work aims to encapsulate the essence of India’s democratic journey and the integral role of all citizens within it.

The gathering at Reshimbagh ground marked not only a cultural celebration but also a rallying cry for the youth of India, reiterating the necessity of strong leadership and moral fortitude in the political arena.
