Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will chair a Unified Headquarters (UHQ) meeting at Raj Bhavan today to assess the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K). The meeting aims to address pressing issues, including winter preparedness and escalating tensions at the Line of Control (LoC) with Pakistan.
The gathering will commence at 11 am, where top officials will brief the Lieutenant Governor on the current security dynamics in the region. The Unified HQ represents the pivotal command authority for security and intelligence operations in J&K.
Sources indicated that the discussions will cover a range of critical issues impacting security, including recent escalations from across the LoC. With the winter season approaching, officials will deliberate on necessary preparations to ensure safety and security in the region.
Attending the meeting are key figures such as the Army’s Northern Commander, Lieutenant General Prateek Sharma, J&K Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, and Chief Secretary Atal Duloo. Heads of paramilitary forces and intelligence agencies will also participate in the security review.
This meeting follows a previous UHQ session chaired by LG Sinha in May 2023, after the successful completion of ‘Operation Sindoor’. During that meeting, Sinha urged security agencies to engage in precise, intelligence-led operations aimed at neutralising terrorist threats and dismantling support networks.
Experts believe that regular UHQ meetings play a critical role in maintaining security in a region that has faced ongoing challenges. They consider these gatherings essential for coordinating responses to potential threats and ensuring comprehensive strategies are in place as the winter months approach.
With rising tensions at the borders, proactive measures have gained importance. Security officials are expected to revisit protocols and enhance readiness in light of any future hostilities. The UHQ’s role becomes ever more significant as it seeks to unify efforts among various security apparatus to tackle challenges effectively.
As the Lieutenant Governor prepares to lead this vital meeting today, stakeholders in J&K anticipate comprehensive discussions that could shape security strategies for the coming months. The focus remains not only on immediate threats but also on long-term preparedness to ensure public safety in Jammu and Kashmir.
