On Monday, a serious vehicle collision near Zojila Pass injured five individuals, raising concerns about safety on this vital route. The accident underscores the growing need for enhanced traffic management in the area.
According to officials, the crash occurred when one vehicle collided with another in the Zojila Pass region, a location frequently travelled by tourists and local residents alike. Emergency responders promptly arrived at the scene, providing necessary first aid to the injured.
The injured included Manzoor Hussain, the son of Sadiq Ali Balti, Shabir Hussain, son of Hussain Ali Balti, and three relatives: Sadiqa Bano, wife of Manzoor Hussain Balti, Masrat Zara, daughter of Manzoor Hussain, and Fareeda Bano, daughter of Moad Hussain. All five hail from the Kargil district.
Officials swiftly transported the victims to the Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Sonamarg, where initial assessments took place. Subsequently, the medical staff referred them to Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) in Soura for specialized treatment. This decision highlights the critical need for quick medical intervention following accidents in remote areas.
The police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. An official note confirmed that authorities are taking cognizance of the incident.
