Rahul Gandhi systematically trying to weaken India’s democracy: BJP on ‘vote chori’ allegations

A day after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi alleged deletion of over 6,000 voters’ names in Karnataka’s Aland Assembly constituency and accused Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar of protecting those behind the act, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday hit back at the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and said he was trying to systematically weaken democracy in the country.

Former Union minister and BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad said Rahul Gandhi was indulging in all this because the public no more votes for him or his party.

“Rahul Gandhi is systematically trying to weaken India’s democracy. Why? Because the public doesn’t vote for him. That’s why he is calling the election of Modi ji of 2014 fake. He is calling the 2019 one fraudulent. He is calling the 2024 one fraudulent. All of them have won by rigging the votes. Rahul Gandhi, please stop abusing the democratic choice of the voters of India,” Prasad said.

Prasad pointed out that Gandhi has alleged irregularities during the 2023 Karnataka election in which his party Congress emerged victorious in the state. The entire machinery was at the Congress government’s disposal and still they are trying to put the blame on others, the BJP MP said. He also noted that Gyanesh Kumar wasn’t even the CEC during the last Karnataka Assembly Election and still Gandhi was targeting him over the alleged ‘vote chori’.

“What Rahul Gandhi has spoken about is the 2023 election. In that election, the Congress party had emerged victorious. At that time, the Chief Election Officer of Karnataka had lodged a complaint… The government in Karnataka, the police, everyone was on the side of Congress, and yet it didn’t work, so why are you making a hue and cry? In yesterday’s press conference, you put up a picture of Gyanesh Kumar; he has come this year, so what does he have to do with the 2023 election? Speaking lies, making accusations without evidence, and presenting a wrong picture before the country has become Rahul Gandhi’s habit.”

Prasad further termed as false the allegations levelled by the Congress MP at a press conference yesterday.

“What’s wrong with Rahul Gandhi? How many lies will he tell? How much will he distort facts? I could use harsher words than this. But Rahul Gandhi, that’s not my culture, nor is it my party’s culture. But you’re betraying the nation’s democracy…Whose government has been in Karnataka since 2023? The Congress party is in power, and the CID is within them. So, they neither do their homework nor understand anything…He is making false accusations and distorting facts and it has become Rahul Gandhi’s nature. Rahul Gandhi has lowered the dignity of the position of Leader of the Opposition,” he said.
