75 Silver Coins Discovered in Uttar Pradesh
In Barabanki district of Uttar Pradesh, demolition workers uncovered a trove of 75 silver coins beneath a demolished home, stirring tensions and excitement last Thursday. The find took place in the Lodheshwar Mahadeva area, where the discovery of precious coins sparked a clash among laborers at the scene.
Police were alerted to the situation, which escalated following the finding, and arrived to restore order. The coins were recovered and are now in the possession of local authorities, with plans for them to be examined by the Archaeological Department.
Details of the Discovery
The coins were found within an earthen pot in the home belonging to Jai Narayan Gupta. As the workers dismantled the building, the pot was unearthed, revealing the coins and provoking immediate conflict among the workforce, eager to claim their newfound wealth.
Witnesses reported that chaos ensued as more people gathered around, drawn by the alarming scene. Abhinandan Pandey, the police officer in charge of the Mahadeva outpost, quickly arrived with reinforcements to manage the crowd and the situation.
Authorities Take Control
The police successfully seized the coins, which are believed to date back to the reigns of Queen Victoria and George V. Naib Tehsildar Vijay Prakash Tiwari and Ramnagar SHO Anil Kumar Pandey also joined the efforts and completed the necessary formalities regarding the discovery.
Authorities highlighted the importance of the find for historical preservation. “The recovery of these coins is significant, and they will provide insights into a historical period,” Tiwari stated after the coins were secured.
