Gool SDM Leads Disaster Preparedness Meeting for Monsoons

RAMBAN, JULY 08: Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Gool, Imtiaz, chaired a crucial Sub-Division Level Disaster Management and Coordination Meeting today to enhance disaster preparedness in the region. The meeting aimed to solidify institutional cooperation and address challenges posed by natural calamities such as floods, landslides, and cloudbursts.

The meeting took place in Gool and saw participation from key officials including Tehsildar Harjeet Singh, SDPO Kuldeep Raj, and other representatives from twenty-three line departments, including Health, Jal Shakti, Police, and the SDRF.

During the gathering, attendees conducted a comprehensive review of the existing disaster management plan. They discussed the availability of manpower and machinery, overall stock of essential commodities, and the status of control rooms and communication systems throughout the sub-division. With monsoon conditions approaching, Imtiaz instructed all departments to remain on high alert while undertaking continuous monitoring of areas prone to landslides and flash floods.

The SDM stressed the importance of proactive measures and urged robust coordination among departments to tackle emergencies effectively. To this end, he directed the Jal Shakti, PWD, and PMGSY departments to identify high-risk areas and prepare restoration teams and machinery for rapid response.

Additionally, he instructed the Health department to stock essential medications and ensure the availability of ambulances and competent medical personnel at both Community Health Centre (CHC) Gool and Primary Health Centres (PHCs). The FCS&CA was tasked with maintaining an adequate buffer stock of essential rations, and the Power Development Department (PDD) needed to arrange for backup power supply.

The SDM also emphasized the need for frequent visits to vulnerable areas by Tehsildars and Naib Tehsildars. They should compile updated lists of disaster-prone pockets and engage the community in raising awareness regarding preventative measures during emergencies.

In terms of emergency operations, the police and twenty-three RR were instructed to support rescue and evacuation services. Beacon representatives were also called upon to ensure the restoration of blocked roads in a timely fashion.

Reiterating the administration’s commitment to safety, the SDM highlighted the importance of effective coordination, public cooperation, and timely responses in minimizing the impact of disasters. He assured residents that the administration is thoroughly prepared to manage any situation arising from natural calamities.
