J&K bank looted by gunmen in Shopian, 2nd incident in 24 hrs – Jammu Voice

Unidentified gunmen on Friday looted a branch of Jammu and Kashmir Bank (JKB) in Shopian district, official sources said. This is the second incident in less than 24 hours in south Kashmir where around Rs 5 lakh was robbed from a JKB at Marhama of Bijbehara in Anantnag on Thursday. They said a group of gunmen entered a JKB branch at Ratnipora in Shopian Friday morning. The gunmen looted cash from the bank after threatening employees and other customers at gun point.

“Around Rs 2 lakh were robbed from the vault of the bank,” they said, adding that security forces were rushed to the area and a massive hunt has been launched. On Thursday, a police spokesperson said during preliminary investigation, it came to fore that two militants identified as Rasik Nabi Bhat allies Owais and Salia Mohammad Akhoon allies Rehaan of banned outfit Hizb-ul-Mujahideen were involved in the robbery.
