Three top terrorists killed in encounter in Anantnag


A top terrorist involved in the attack on Hurriyat leader’s house in Srinagar was among three ultras killed in a brief encounter at Kokarnag in Anantnag district.  Police said acting on the credible leads of presence of terrorists, security forces launched cordon and search operation in the Hakoora village of Anantnag district.

“While the search was going on the hiding militants fired upon the search party. The fire was retaliated by the security forces ensuing an encounter. In the encounter three militants were killed”, said a police spokesman.  The slain has been  identified as Eesa Fazli of Srinagar and Syed Owais of Kokarnag. The identity of third militant  is being ascertained. A large cache of arms and ammunition including AK 47 rifles, pistols, hand grenades were recovered from the encounter site. There was no collateral damage in the incident.

One of the slain terrorists Eesa Fazili was involved in a recent attack on a police guard post at the residence of moderate Hurriyat leader Fazal Haq Qureshi at Bilal Colony Soura. One police constable was killed in the attack “In this connection a case has been registered and investigation has been started under the relevant provisions of the law by the Police”, the spokesman said.

Dreaded Islamic State and Zakir Musa led Al Qaeda affiliate Ansar Gazwat ul Hind had claimed responsibility for the attack on the residence of Hurriyat leader.  The 25-year-old Eesa Fazili was in B.Tech (second year) at Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University in Rajouri, when he dropped out to join the militant ranks in Kashmir. Police records show that Eesa had joined Tehreek-ul-Mujhadeen. Coming from an affluent family, Eesa’s father is the principal of a government higher secondary school. Soon after he became a terrorist, he had posted a video on social networking sites preaching Jihad.

Meanwhile, schools and colleges have been shut in Srinagar on Monday as a precautionary measure. Mobile Internet speed has been reduced and restrictions have been imposed in parts of the city.
