R-Day: Ladakhi officer to lead first BSF women contingent


Leh || The 69th Republic Day function at the Rajpath in New Delhi will be special for the Ladakh region, especially for women and Himis Shukpachan village of Leh district as the first Border Security Force (BSF) women contingent is to be led by a Ladakhi woman BSF officer.

Sub-Inspector Stanzin Noryang will be leading the BSF women contingent on Republic Day. It has become a subject of debate among Ladakhis on social media and public gatherings. Good wishes and congratulatory notes for her family are pouring in.

Stanzin Noryang is a resident of Hemis Shukpachan village in Khalsi Block of Leh district. She is the youngest of the four siblings.

Noryang (29) is the captain of the women BSF Biker contingent, which will be displaying stunts for the first time. The contingent will display daredevils and acrobatic on the 350 cc Royal Enfield Bullet Bike.

Stanzin over the phone said the BSF women bikers were going to display 16 types of stunts and 51 riders would perform these. As many as 106 have been trained, out of which 51 will be riding on the bike while others will be supporters. She also said that she would be the borderman to salute the parade.

Stanzin while expressing happiness said the members of the contingent were feeling very proud as it was raised only in October last year.

She said within a short period everyone in the contingent learnt to ride a bike, got trained and were now going to display the stunts in front of the whole country at the Rajpath on Republic Day.
