Doda, An old 10-kg improvised explosive device (IED) was defused in Doda district today.
Security forces claimed that the IED was planted by militants around 15 years ago in the Ponda area, around 11 km from Doda, when militancy was at its peak in the area. Now, Doda has been declared a militancy-free zone.
“Labourers who were digging the earth for installing a cable wire on the Bharat-Doda road, detected the IED around noon today. Later, they informed the police,” SSP Mohammed Shabir Choudhary said.
“The area was cordoned off by joint operation teams of the police and Army. No traffic was allowed on the road for three hours to avert any tragedy,” he said. — OC
