Niles hollowel dhar better known as “KSHMR” has been dominating the global EDM scene from three years. He debuted the Dj Mag list of world’s top DJ with #23 which was the highest new entry in the history of Dj Mag top 10. In the next year his ranking bettered and he achieved the whooping #11 within just two years of his career which is in itself a big thing.
He surpassed some of biggest DJ’s of the world including Calvin Harris, Rehab and many more.
Niles hollowell Dhar isn’t someone who just jumps into this music scene and made a name. “Kshmr” was formely the better half of two member “electro-hop” group “The Cataracs”.
The Cataracs had become a big name in the pop industry with their song “Like a G6” topping the Billboard hot top 100.
After the “Electro-Hop” group splitted due to the departure of “Campa”, the other member of “The Cataracs”, Niles started to produce music for some of the biggest names in the industry.
Niles has produced music for Enrique iglesias, Pitbull, Sean Paul, Selena Gomez, Beyonce and many more.
His major hits as a producer includes:-
Heart attack by Enrique Iglesias
Partition by Beyonce
Other side of love by Sean Paul
But all this wasn’t enough for him so he started working as an underground artist and ghost produced a lot of tracks including one of biggest edm hit ever ” TSUNAMI” with DVBBS and Borgeous.
He then finally started his own project “KSHMR” and his first solo single “Megladoon” was out on the Spinnin Records. This single gained a lot attention and everyone was curious who’s this “KSHMR”.
This mystery remained a mystery for a year and then “Tiesto finally introduced “KSHMR” in the “Ultra Music Festival” as he was playing their collabration “Secrets” which was again a proof of KSHMR’S geniusness.
Niles didn’t use his “The Cataracs” fame to leverage his success instead he build a new name for himself without letting anybody know his true identity.
Kshmr today has headlined multiple EDM events including “EDC”.
Sunburn is the biggest EDM festival in Asia and KSHMR has been playing the main stage from two years. Despite this he has already played in all the major EDM Events of the world including “Tomorrowland”, “Coachella” and “Ultra Music Festival”.
Kshmr has an immense respect for his heritage and he has expressed this respect through his songs “Jammu” and “Kashmir”.
He also made a video for “Jammu” which told the story of a boy who is manipulated to become a terrorist. His love for his culture can easily be assessed by Indian influences in his songs.
Niles Hollowell Dhar has been born and brought up in U.S.A but his father “Naresh Dhar” was from India. His mother “Paula Hollowell Dhar” is from U.S.A so he has two cultural influences on him.
In his interviews, Kshmr has told that he used to visit India very often and he has very good relations with his grand parents. His Grandmother died in 2012 and to express his immense love for her he dedicated the music video of ” Jammu” to her. Besides this he has also produced a song “Dadima” in remembrance of her Grandmother. The emotions he put into this song are so powerful that the song has no words but still the music can make you cry.
During both of his sets in Sunburn he brought his Grandfather “Pearey Lal Dhar” to the main stage and on Sunburn 2016 he made a special tribute for his grandmother and his grandfather was in tears. He stated “I am proud to have a grandson like “Niles”.
KSHMR’s journey has really been an inspiration and we Team Jammu Voice wishes him great success.
